After the death of Roman Komierowski, the estate was inherited by his son, Tomasz, who between 1924 and 1929 expanded the palace in a neo-Baroque and neoclassical style, according to the design by architect Adam Ciborowski. The last owner of Komierów, Tomasz, was shot by the Germans in September 1939, and the German army made the palace their headquarters, remaining there until the end of the war.
The German occupation, followed by the Soviet occupation, spared neither the palace collections, the library, nor the family portrait collection, carefully gathered since the 15th century.
In the post-war years, the palace served various functions: a work center for prisoners, a warehouse, the headquarters of the State Agricultural Farm (PGR), and a youth riding camp center. The son of the last owner of the estate, Andrzej, lived outside Poland after the war.
He returned to his homeland in 1991 because a law was to take effect regarding the return of properties to their rightful owners. Unfortunately, this law never became a reality, and Andrzej (5th from the left), along with his wife Janina Komierowska (1st from the left), spent the last years of their lives in Sępólno Krajeńskie. He died in 1994 in Bydgoszcz. According to his wish, he was buried in the Komierowo cemetery.

In 2003, the palace was purchased from the State Treasury by a Mazovian family line
The building was ruined, and other elements such as the roof and gutters were continuously stolen and vandalized by local thieves. The family tried for many years to obtain financial support from the State for the palace's reconstruction, but they never received it.
The renovation of the palace was entirely funded by the Komierowski family from their own resources, without any help from the State. The Komierowski family was forced to purchase the historic family residence from the State Treasury after it was stolen and completely destroyed.

Diary of the final reconstruction 2012 – 2018
Devastated during the PRL period, the monument required a major renovation. This task was undertaken by Piotr's daughter, Agnieszka. The renovation lasted 6 full years and involved not only restoration work but also extensive bureaucracy and complex design work that was constantly evolving.
"I invite you to immerse yourself in this fascinating story frame by frame and take a closer look at the challenges I faced during the reconstruction of our magnificent family palace."

Beginnings 2011
01
My first meeting with our family palace in Komierowo had nothing of the charm of old legends and fairy tales. I saw… a ruined building surrounded by a neglected park. It was hard to find even a trace of former beauty. Instead of a neo-baroque-classical building, we had before our eyes a dying empty house. This sight tore my heart apart. We started construction work by removing all plasters, demolishing unnecessary walls, dismantling the historic balustrade, cleaning up, and securing the roof against precipitation.
Endless chaos 2012

The cleaning took several months. Then I thought: "My God, how much work is still left here!" But I didn't say it out loud. Everyone around was saying it, so I didn't want to show that it was overwhelming me. Instead, I simply kept to the schedule to move as smoothly as possible from one stage to the next.
Start of construction work 2013
03
Renovation work in the palace began in 2013. Around 600 people passed through the construction site over 5 years, with about 30 working there daily. We added a conference room and a delivery area to the palace (a huge single-story building with utility rooms). We also built a new boiler room and added an underground connector that in the future would link the palace with the new hotel section.
Changes 2014
04
We had to build foundations because the palace did not have any. We reinforced the ground with liquid glass injections, replaced almost all the ceilings, and completely replaced the last wooden floor with a new reinforced concrete ceiling. We built an elevator shaft.
Coordination on the construction site
05
I was very tired, but at the same time fulfilled. We worked every day from 8 AM to 11 PM. I decided to devote myself entirely to this task and treated every finished detail as a personal success. Of course, there were also many failures. However, the most difficult part was the multitasking involved in this huge renovation. I had to simultaneously coordinate many areas, from official paperwork, permits, expert opinions, designs, contacts with contractors, to purchases and settlements.

We completed all connections – sanitary sewage, stormwater drainage, and water discharge. We laid tens of kilometers of concealed installations (electrical, telecommunication, and sanitary). We also built 120 meters of pre-insulated pipes to supply the palace and the outbuilding with heat and utility water as well as chilled water used for air conditioning. Simultaneously with the work in the palace, we began restoring the surrounding park to its former glory. It contained over 2000 trees. We started with an inventory describing their size, species, and location on the map.
11.08.2017 - storm with a speed of 200km/h
07
In 2017, a storm with a speed of 200 km/h passed through the park, in which we lost over 700 trees. For the next 3 years, we fought the effects of this destructive event. The Volunteer Fire Brigade from all over Poland helped us a lot back then. One of the firefighters, when he found out that I was Komierowska, was very surprised. After work, he approached me and said that he imagined me as a dignified lady sitting in an armchair stroking a large, skinny... cat. I laughed to tears! I totally didn’t fit that description. He saw me in rubber boots and work clothes, negotiating with the pavers the size of the gravel fraction for hardening the parking lots. And why exactly a cat?!
